Everyday Racism Community Discussion Continues
RSVP if you would!, to firstname.lastname@example.org
Bring food to share if you'd like. Food and all materials used are permissible if: RECYCLABLE, REUSABLE, AND COMPOSTABLE. Chairs will be provided. Set up and re-stack BY US. We are guests in someone else's space.
Topics will include
A) Intro/ brief recap of Everyday Racism 1st session (Jameel Abdur-Rafia)
B) Preparing the Community for America To Me
- Lyniece Lush (OPRFHS Tutoring Center)
How will our children experience the film? Do they need spaces to process and express what they know and experience, but, what will now be revealed to everyone?
- Does OP have a White Fragility issue? (Jameel and others -- we'd love you to participate! )
Will this impact how residents experience and discuss the film, America To Me? Is it important for the community to be in touch with this issue as we embark on watching and (hopefully) growing from the film about our children's experiences at OPRFHS?
Suggested additional readings or viewing (we realize folks don't have much time!):
a) The America To Me trailers:
b) White fragility articles/ videos, etc.
Some community members have read and discussed Robin D'Angelo's book, White Fragility, in other forums. We'd love you to share!
